Why a Bitcoin-Only Wallet?
Last reviewed:
A Bitcoin-only wallet is a wallet that supports Bitcoin and nothing else: no altcoins, no tokens, no swaps, no built-in trading. The point is not ideology. It is engineering. Every additional asset means another blockchain protocol, another set of address formats, another integration to keep secure, and another way for the wallet holding your savings to fail. Doing one thing well is a security feature.
Less code, less attack surface
A multi-coin wallet has to speak dozens of protocols. Each has its own transaction format, signing rules, fee logic, token standards, and in many cases smart-contract interactions that let a malicious website drain a wallet with a single approved signature. Each of those components is maintained by a different community, updates on a different schedule, and can break in ways that only show up when money is on the line.
A Bitcoin-only wallet has one protocol to get right. The address formats are stable and well understood, the signing rules have been studied for more than fifteen years, and there are no token approvals to be tricked into. Fewer moving parts means fewer bugs, smaller updates, and a codebase that a small team can actually audit end to end. TZUR is Bitcoin-only for exactly this reason.
Fewer decisions at the worst possible moment
Multi-asset wallets ask you to make consequential choices under time pressure: which network is this token on, is this address for the right chain, is this swap quote fair, is this token real or a lookalike. Sending funds to the wrong network is one of the most common irreversible mistakes in the industry, and it is a mistake that cannot exist in a wallet with one network.
In a Bitcoin-only wallet the questions collapse to the ones that matter: is this the right address, is this the right amount, is this the right fee. TZUR shows you the destination and fee before you confirm, lets you raise the fee on a stuck transaction, and lets you check the result on the network in the built-in BlockSight.Live explorer.
Incentives you can see
Free multi-coin wallets are usually not free. They earn on swaps, on trading spreads, on token listings, or on data, which means the wallet has an incentive to surface those features whether or not they are good for you. A Bitcoin-only wallet has nothing to sell you inside the app. TZUR is a one-time purchase of $59.99 with no subscription, no swaps, and no in-app monetization. The person who paid is the person the wallet serves, and there is no reason for the app to grow features that do not help that person hold and use bitcoin.
What you give up
Honesty requires listing the trade-offs. A Bitcoin-only wallet cannot hold other assets, so if you own several coins you need several wallets or a hardware device that supports them. Some Bitcoin-only wallets also skip the Lightning Network, which TZUR does: it is an on-chain wallet, which keeps the model simple and fully self-custodial, at the cost of instant micropayments. If your main use is paying for coffee over Lightning every day, a Lightning-first wallet fits better. If your main use is holding, receiving, and sending bitcoin with as little to go wrong as possible, Bitcoin-only on-chain is the conservative choice.
How TZUR applies it
TZUR implements Bitcoin and only Bitcoin, using open standards: BIP-39 recovery phrases, BIP-32 key derivation, BIP-84 Native SegWit addresses, with Taproot send support so you can pay any modern address. Keys are generated on your iPhone and stored in the hardware-backed iOS Keychain, restricted to the device and excluded from backups. Every transaction is signed locally. The app connects to the Bitcoin network through standard Electrum infrastructure, shows balances in 75 fiat currencies, and includes the BlockSight.Live block explorer so you can verify what happened without trusting a third-party website.
Because there is only one asset, TZUR spends its effort on the parts of a Bitcoin wallet that usually get the least attention: the backup. It is the first wallet that generates and restores the BIP-39 recovery phrase in 31 languages, always alongside the English version, so the most important twelve words you will ever write down are in a language you can read.
Who a Bitcoin-only wallet is for
If you have decided that bitcoin is the asset you want to hold, a Bitcoin-only wallet matches that decision with a tool built for it. It suits people saving in bitcoin, people receiving payments in bitcoin, people who want a wallet their family can understand, and people who have been burned by complexity before. It is a poor fit for active traders of many assets, and it is not meant to replace a hardware wallet for very large holdings. Most bitcoiners end up with both: a hardware wallet for savings, and a simple Bitcoin-only mobile wallet for everything else.
Common questions about Bitcoin-only wallets
What is a Bitcoin-only wallet?
A wallet that supports the Bitcoin network and no other assets: no altcoins, tokens, swaps, or trading. The smaller scope means a smaller codebase, fewer integrations, and fewer ways to make an irreversible mistake.
Is a Bitcoin-only wallet safer than a multi-coin wallet?
Structurally, yes. It has fewer protocols to implement, no token approvals to be tricked into, and no wrong-network sends. Safety still depends on the specific wallet keeping keys on your device and signing locally, which is why you should check those properties too.
Does TZUR support Lightning?
No. TZUR is an on-chain Bitcoin wallet. Payments settle on the Bitcoin network, confirmed in blocks, and you can watch them in the built-in BlockSight.Live explorer. If you mostly make small instant payments, pair TZUR with a Lightning wallet.
Can I hold other cryptocurrencies in TZUR?
No, and it will not be added. Bitcoin-only is a design decision, not a missing feature. Your BIP-39 recovery phrase can still be restored in other standards-compliant wallets.
Why does TZUR charge for a Bitcoin-only wallet when others are free?
Because a wallet with nothing to sell inside it has to be paid for by its users, or it has to sell something else. TZUR is a one-time purchase of $59.99 with no subscription, no swaps, and no data monetization, which keeps the incentives visible.
Which address types does TZUR use?
TZUR generates Native SegWit (BIP-84, bc1q) addresses and can send to any standard address type, including Taproot (bc1p). Fees are lower than legacy addresses and compatible with every modern wallet and exchange.
